About

Texas 4000 is a nonprofit organization that engages communities in the fight against cancer. Together, we share hope, knowledge and charity through leadership development, grantmaking, and our cornerstone event--a 4,000+ mile bike ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska. Along this journey, we are becoming more than advocates for cancer, we are becoming sources of change. As we ride this coming May, we will come to know the people we ride for, and engage with communities afflicted by cancer across North America. We will learn from people dedicated to the same mission, and gift grants to institutions with the power to do more. 

I joined Texas 4000 with the intent to be a part of something bigger than myself--to purposefully use my time and make an impact that matters. I've always been captivated by healthcare--how medicine, research, people, etc. work together to change lives. It sounds grand, but how could I do that now? Without having to wait 10 years to become a practicing doctor? Texas 4000 actualizes the potential we have as communities—to empathize and love, to collaborate, to impact and empower. 

The group of people we ride for is particularly beautiful. A group of people in which my grandpa is a survivor. I ride for him in the part of his battle only he could feel and understand. I ride for others in his situation, and for the families, friends and loved ones who share part of their battle. I ride, also, for Brady--who had no control over his life changing at 17 in an accident. He continues to smile/inspire, and while I could never truly step in his shoes, I could take the opportunity to provide care to him, to be his friend, and now to ride in union with him through this physically and mentally demanding journey. I ride for my patients, who place hope in me to recognize their suffering. For my grandpa, who lost a fight with diabetes, but left a legacy of someone I want to become--strong, selfless, and determined. Ultimately, I ride in solidarity with those who fight a battle only they fully know—to join them amidst situations they feel no control over. I ride beyond where empathy meets its limits, and where actions remain to invoke change.

As a rider, I am committed to raising $4,500 - a dollar per every mile ridden. I believe this goal can be reached with the support of people like you. No donation is too small!!***
