Mary Adams was a force to be reckoned with. She was many things—an educator at Temple High School for over thirty years, one of the proponents for the International Baccalaureate Program to come to Temple's school district, and a fierce advocate for students. Mrs. Adams guided thousands of students toward their paths after high school and helped me through every step of the college application process. She wrote letters of recommendation for me while she was on vacation, had numerous meetings to ensure I understood the application process, and made sure that I was going to school to follow my passions.
After making the decision that I was going to Texas, Mary Adams emailed me saying:
'And more...I am also thrilled about UT. I think it is perfect for you, especially now! I hope you will keep in touch because your journey will always be special.'
That was the last message I received from Mary Adams. After my first year at UT, Mrs. Adams passed from cancer immunotherapy complications. Although I knew her only for a short time, Mrs. Adams had a lasting impact on me—as she did for many in my community. I ride to honor her legacy and passion for education.
Since joining Texas 4000, I have learned that every person has been touched by cancer in one way or another. As I move forward in this journey, I ride to listen to the stories those who have been affected by cancer have to share.
Who do you ride for? Let me know, and I will ride for them too.
