Hello everyone! I am biking from Austin to Alaska this coming summer with Texas 4000 for Cancer, and here’s why.
A bronzesmith I met while shadowing a physician showed me a picture of his newly finished project, quietly proud of his handiwork. A few years ago, he was diagnosed with cancer, yet now, he appeared to be cancer-free, gracious to have reclaimed his passions and hobbies. I realized then how cancer treatment could recover beyond just the physical.
This lesson became pertinent to me as I was pushed to trust in its care after learning a relative of mine had cancer. Although initially unclear whether they had hope for recovery, modern medicine gave them the capacity to heal and reclaim parts of their life. Thankfully, they have since recovered, learning to return to what made them whole.
My ride will be dedicated in honor of their and many others’ stories of aspiration in the face of cancer. In every way I can, I hope to contribute towards a movement for reclaimed life. To begin, I have set out to bike to Alaska, honoring the stories I encounter and building strength for others to unfold. Join me by helping me fundraise towards my goal of $4,500 at my donation page.
Please also reach out to me if there is anyone you would like for me to dedicate my ride to. I would be honored to carry their or your story with me as I endeavor to cross the nation. Thank you for reading.
To Alaska and back,
Mark Li
