We share hope, knowledge and charity through leadership development, grant-making, and our cornerstone event, a 4,000+ mile bike ride from Austin to Anchorage.My family is the main reason that I'm riding. My grandfather was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2004, and lost his battle in 2007. I look back on those years, and even though I was so young, I still have very clear memories of the toll it took on everyone in my family both physically and emotionally.I ride for my mom. I want to thank her for her strength because I can't imagine raising two children and losing your dad in your 20's. She's taught me that I can bounce back from whatever comes my way.I ride for my grandma. I ride for the years she lost with her husband because of cancer. Her dedication to our family has never ceased to amaze me. Recently, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. It's always so scary and unsettling when someone you love is sick, but my family and I have a lot of hope. Plus, my grandma is a strong lady! It's also nice to know I have an entire team of people supporting her through this difficult time.And of course, I ride for my grandpa. Although I only had a short time knowing him, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him. He was a great man, and I'm not just saying this because he's my grandpa. To this day, people in my hometown recognize me as his granddaughter and often have some sort of story about how he helped them in one way or another. He also went to UT, and never turned down an adventure. Through my ride, I feel like not only am I honoring his memory, but I feel closer to him.There are many others that I ride for, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to celebrate them through this journey!
