I first came across cancer in biology class. Cancer—an uncontrollable replication of the cells in one’s body capable of spreading and invading tissue.

I’ve been extremely fortunate to not have any close family members affected by cancer, but I know the same isn’t true for many others. Since that biology class, I have watched friends, mentors, and relatives receive their shattering cancer diagnoses, seen their vibrant energies deplete, and have witnessed the long-standing effects of their loss on their loved ones and the surrounding community.

I have met those who have fortunately beat cancer as well, although they continue to bear a heavy physical toll. What’s more—I have seen how people can be affected by cancer beyond physiology. Several survivors also bear excessive amounts of medical debt and financial strain following their triumphant battle with cancer.

I ride for all of these people.

My grandparents and parents have always capitalized on the power of an education. I ride for them for instilling in me the value of helping my community using the knowledge I gain from my own education.
